The Filter

filter_app_01.jpg

Joining the growing family of iTunes plug-ins, The Filter is a free program that works like your own personal DJ by automatically creating playlists from your library and syncing them to your iPod. Selecting just a few songs directs the program to analyze your picks, scan your library and generate a mood-matching mix. The time-saver will even compile data on your musical tastes to recommend new music it thinks you might like.

Available for Mac, Windows and select Nokia mp3-enabled phones as a free download.

I will try it and let you know. But most of these so called matching features rely on artist/music type to provide matches. If it drills down deeper to rhythms, bass lines etc. then I could see it being really cool. Like I said I will try it and let you know.

The Filter works really well for me with 'mainstreamy' stuff, but works not so well for more indie stuff - but thats to be expected.

I've been very impressed with the software overall.

Thanks for the input. I'm looking forward to taking it for a spin.

I use The Filter and find that it works pretty well most of the time, but like Fingo said, not particularly well on "indie stuff." But I still recommend it.
