Top 10 Telephone Tricks
When getting things done involves making phone calls, you want to spend the least amount of time and money on the horn as possible — and several tricks and services can help you do just that. For example:
I’m usually tuned into Google’s innovative new services but I guess I missed this one. It’s a free 411 service! Instead of calling regular telco or cellular 411 services for information (and an extra charge on your bill), use Google’s new 411 service by calling 1-800-GOOG-411 to get a street address or phone number, even a map of the area via text message. It’s free, fast and easy to use. We’re adding the number to our cellphone, home and office speed-dials! Watch the video, then give it a try!
Lifehacker has compiled a list of Top 10 telephone tricks to help you skip through or cut off long-winded automated voice systems and humans, access web services by voice, and smartly screen incoming calls. I haven’t tried the other 9 but probably will in the near future. Let me know how they work for you!

I use the Google 411 service all the time and it works flawlessly. This company is great!
You should read my WWW more often, my brudda. I had this posted about 2-3 months ago....
Tsk....and I thought you were paying attention......
OH, the inhumanity!
It seems to me you posted something like this about the fellow who figured out how to get passed auto-operators before. I was unable to locate it using your search function. Can you direct me to that post?
I do read them, my brudda, but sometimes fail to implement or remember them. But since this one was included in the list, I chose to feature it. I do read your WWW. Honest. Really.
Doug
all is forgiven.
I'll leave the light on
Thank you! I tried GOOG-411 and it actually works, very well in fact! I haven't tried the other "tricks" but will based on my success with this one!
Very cool stuff!
I have not heard of 1-800-goog-411.
But I've been using 1-800-free-411 for over a year now. Don't know if it will text a map to you but it will text you the phone number you are looking for as well as voice it. It does make you listen to a short advertisement though, which can be annoying. I'll check out goog-411 and see if it's better. Thanks!
I haven't looked into the others, but I tried the GOOG-411 and it works great!
Google will one day rule the internet. Go Google!
I have used both, Shannon, and GOOG-411 is the better of the two if your cell phone can receive text.
Thanks for the 411 tip!
