Anonymous' Scientology Protest in Los Angeles

rob_sheridan_scientology.jpg

The colorful internet group known as “Anonymous” donned masks and descended on Scientology centers in major cities throughout the world yesterday to protest the Church’s questionable ethics, devious practices, free speech violations, and their requirement that believers pay tens of thousands of dollars to participate in their “religion.”

Rob Sheridan attended the Los Angeles rally and snapped these photos of some of the hundreds of diverse and passionate anons, many wearing Guy Fawkes masks, as they flooded Sunset Boulevard in front of the Church Of Scientology.

I hadn't heard about this! Scientology is taking some fire these days. Good!

The Guy Fawkes masks were a nice touch.

I hope everyone got a chance to see the video of Tom Cruise being interviewed about his "religion" and the spoof posted on this site a week or two ago. Scientology is a cult for rich celebs who want to feel religious but in a designer religion more suited to their higher "understanding".

They had a rally/march here in Clearwater also but I didn't see any Guy Fawkes masks, only those masks like doctors wear.

I agree, it is a cult for Hollywood types who want to feel good about how much they "care" but in secret society.

The Tom Cruises and Madonnas of the world think they need a more elite religion than the rest of us because they are "special".

From what I understand, Scientology is a religion solely in name and for the purpose of avoiding taxes and government scrutiny. It operates much like a cult and its members give large amounts of money in its furtherance. Members also act in a way mirroring members of other cults who have been "brainwashed" into believing in what they are doing, no matter how illogical.

Why our government doesn't break the cult's barrier of secrecy and handle them like any other tax-avoiding cult scheme is beyond me. It seems anything that calls itself a religion is off limits, even if they are plotting is our destruction (Islam) or bilking gullible people out of their money for membership in their secret cult and not paying taxes (Scientology).

And we flaccidly watch them doing it to us.

Wonderful photographs of the event. However, the masks are reminiscent of the movie, "V For Vendetta", the plot of which may not be the message the anons wish to convey concerning the Church of Scientology.

They're still a bunch of individuals who guide their world the way that suits them based on a book written years ago and various personal interpretations.

Oh, wait...that's Catholics....sorry.

Scientologists....freakin' whackadoos!

Now I get the significance of the Guy Fawkes masks! They are going to drive a train filled with explosives into the Scientology church building! How fitting!

But wait. There are no tracks.... OK forget that. Back to the drawing board.

Only momentarily diverting from the thread, has anyone not seen "V for Vendetta" (Origin of the masks)? If not, it is worth renting.

We now return you to your regular thread....

We thought "V for Vendetta" was an awesome movie! If you heven't seen it, rent the DVD! But first read up on Guy Fawkes.
