Cheap @%#& GPS

When we vacationed last July with Cindy and Ray, Cindy had just bought a mobile GPS to help her navigate our Sacramento>Carmel>Yosemite>Folsom road trip in case our cars became separated. As I recall, she had some problems with it… beginning with getting it to stick to her windshield and later with its disagreeing with the fancy schmancy GPS in our car. So when I saw this Randall Munroe ‘toon, I immediately thought of them… and the wonderful memories came rushing back.

This picture reminds me of mine. I bought a Garmin nuvi 350 last summer on eBay for $120. It was supposed to be just slightly used. They emphasized that it looked perfect etc. But when I used it, it worked about like the one in the picture. I tried to return it to get my money back but the guy swore it worked fine when he had it and I should call Garmin. Garmin told me it wasn't under warranty anymore so I was screwed. My advise is don't buy used electronics without a warranty!!

I remember playing that game with my sisters and friends when I was very little. Funny to think a GPS would do that lol!!

I have that GPS but I got mine new and haven't had any problems with it. My parents is built into their Acura and it works way better, but this one is fine for me most of the time. Plus I can put it in another car when I want to.

What do you want for 100 bucks? Close is better than nothing.

The biggest gripe I had with ours when we had it was it took us to places we couldn't drive through. Like the software was old and places had been built where roads used to be so it tried to navigate us through them. And there were lots of streets it said weren't in the database so it would only get you close, kind of like your cartoon. When we got a new car, it had a GPS in it so I threw the portable in a dumpster, and good riddance!

btw, nice photos.
