Cactus Cuties Sing The Star Spangled Banner

Cousin Mike sent the .wmv version of this, and if it doesn’t make you stand up and cheer, nothing will! It’s our National Anthem sung by five young girls — Andi, Baylee, Blaire, Madeline and Tatum — ages 8-13 at the time and known as “The Cactus Cuties” after the Cactus Theater in Lubbock, Texas. This performance was at the Texas Tech vs Texas basketball game, January 20, 2008, before a crowd of more than 11,000 spectators.

Having become something of a YouTube phenomenon, their studio recording of the National Anthem is available on iTunes. I don’t know about you, but whenever I see and hear something like this, my chest swells, my throat tightens and my faith in our future is renewed. And yes, sometimes I get a little teary-eyed.

I literally had to grab a tissue. As a veteran I truly appreciate this song no matter how it is presented, but this gave me chills.

They're amazing, this song is so beautifully arranged. When the girl, I dunno which one, sings the high note near the end I get goosebumps! They're really such a brilliant talent for their age! I'm not American but this is my fave vid!

I can't watch this and the other videos of these wonderful young ladies singing the national anthem enough times. I have never heard it sung more beautifully and with more feeling in my life! Makes me proud to be an American veteran and I'm not ashamed to say it brings tears to my eyes every time! These young ladies are a national treasure! I will be downloading the MP3 from iTunes!

Two wonderful things:First, these young girls singing their hearts out (and with talent!), and second, I've watched all the vids of them singling the National Anthem and everyone in the stands that I could see had their hands across their hearts. America--you still have it!

Kudos to director Cami Caldwell as well as the girls themselves! So far, I haven't played it once without tears coming to my eyes!

In a time when our country requires members of its military to stand in harm's way, it is an honor to be reminded so splendedly of very heart of freedoms in need of defending. Thank you, young ladies. You sent chills all over this old soldier. And as for those few who might criticize your patriotism, just direct them to the first soldier you see. We'll handle them for you! You have my word on it. ;-)

Did anyone notice the video with the girls performing "Freedom"? If they remain together, these girls may become the next Pointer Sisters!!
