Sometimes difficult to maneuver and definitely high maintenance, but always a pleasure to fly.

It is always easy to spot with its high horizontal tail span.

The ride can be bumpy during turbulence but once she smooths out its always a great ride.

You might enjoy some photos of the C-17 taken at the 2007 ADF Air Show.

Some facts about the C-17:

* It has a wingspan of nearly 170 feet and is 174 feet long. It stands 55 feet tall at the peak of its tail.

* It operates with only a pilot, copilot and loadmaster. The two pilots fly from an electronic cockpit, with quad-redundant circuitry plus a mechanical backup.

* It can lift off at a maximum 585,000 pounds and carry a 160,000-pound cargo load 2,400 nautical miles.

* It's service ceiling is 45,000 feet. It can reach a speed of 0.77 Mach.

* From a distance, you might confuse the C-17 with a C-5. The C-17, however, is appreciably smaller and is readily identifiable by the vertical elements on its wingtips.

An amazing aircraft!

Always enjoy the military aircraft features on you site. Are you going to resume your Friday Flyby posts?

Yours is not the first request, McIver, and I will probably get back to "Fryday Flybys" when I get a little more free time. I've been especially busy these last few months and there's been too few hours in the day. But thanks for your input! It's appreciated!
