America, Meet Republican VP Nominee Sarah Palin!

If you missed Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s speech last night at the RNC, you missed a rare treat. After Rudy Giuliani fired up the delegates, Palin delivered an introduction to who she is, what she’s made of and gave notice to her Democratic opponents that it’s “game on.”

I’ll admit that I was more than a little curious how she would come across. After all, Sen. Barack Obama is a gifted speaker and has mesmerized the media for months with his artful rhetoric, and I hoped Palin’s speech would compare favorably. But Palin set my mind, and that of much of America, at ease with a fiery speech that spanned more than 35 minutes and had the crowd on their feet for much of it.

If you’re a veteran, you had to shed a tear during the last five minutes. If you have, or know someone with a special needs child, you shed a tear when she talked about her four month old baby boy, Trig, born with Down Syndrome. And if you were hoping to learn where she comes from, what she believes and what she wants to bring to the White House with John McCain, you had to feel satisfied when she left the podium. Her one-liners alone were worth the price of admission!

So far, I’m impressed. I realize Americans have become callous and distrustful of anyone associated with politics and for good reason. But if ever there was someone like you and me — an everyday hockey mom who goes to work every day, a Washington outsider who’s administered and balanced a state budget, fought corruption and bucked the system — it’s Sarah Palin. If you watched her speech, you know what I mean. She’s what we all wish we had in government but didn’t believe exists.

I’ve linked to the Wall Street Journal’s transcript and provided MSNBC’s video of her speech for those of you that missed it or want to watch it again.

I’d say the Republican base — along with Hillary supporters, women and a lot of Independents — are energized and looking forward to her debate with Joe Biden! Impressed? I am.

Now we are talking. She blew me away! I expected a good speech, but she delivered a home run!

Great speech! She had a reputation, now I see where it comes from. I hope McCain can deliver as well although from what I hear, he is expected to be much lighter than Palin was last night.

I hope she bloodies Biden in the debate!

Thanks for posting the speech. I wasn't able to watch it last night and have only heard snippets today. She definitely lived up to my expectations. She made me proud!

Lies, lies, lies. A pack of empty allegations and promises just like Republicans have done for years.

Obama * Biden will kick their Republican asses!

True!

I have always voted Democrat but this time around I have switched horses mid-stream. I wasn't so sure about McCain, but I am sure about Palin and I am starting to believe in McCain now too. They have my vote for sure!

McCain-Palin!

I thought it interesting that Joe Lieberman gave a speech at the RNC for McCain-Palin. He switched parties leaving the Democrats to become an Independent. Katy Couric and Bob Schieffer made light of it saying that it was no big deal, he is a friend of McCain's and will probably be given a cabinet position. As if leaving the Democratic party and supporting a Republican makes him a nobody now.

What ever happened to unbiased journalism? I have never seen so much overt bias in favor of Democrats in the media as in this election!!

All I can say is WOW!! That was a wonderful speech, delivered by a great speaker, telling it like it is and with just the right amount of humour and tongue in cheek. You can bet the dems are busy trying to did up anything they can find to confuse voters, and I have to think Obama and Biden are in a quandry about what to do next. The dem pundits are claiming she "attacked" Obama (like they haven't been saying she has no experience, attacking her daughter, claiming the baby Trig is really the daughter's, making a big deal of the so called Trooper-Gate sour grapes asshat she fired). If the dems want a battle, I think they have one now.

I can hear Obama now. "She said something unflattering about me! That's attacking me! So it is OK for me to attack her!" The dems will get dirty, they were caught off guard. Should be interesting.

Trying to divert the issue is their style. Just don't lose sight of the ball.

The lady rocked the house, she rocked the T.V., She rocked the country. She hit Obama hard on the things where he is weak. She proved that she is MORE than able and experienced to be the Vice President. She was a breath of fresh air. She was like a cool breeze in a hot humid room. She represents all of us who are sick of Washington politics, high taxes, wasteful spending, and elitist thinking.

Well, the Democrats have a problem. They had a week calling her a clueless redneck, a stewardess, a non-entity, and she has hurled it all back into their bleeding gums.

If I were Joe Biden, I’d start practicing for October 2nd right now.

This is why we are a divided nation. Were they watching the same speech?

Whoopie Goldberg says that Palin is "a very dangerous woman".

All the more reason to support McCain-Palin!

One of the best convention speeches I have ever heard! I listened to it several times and it still impresses me! Go Sarah!

I have read much about Gov. Palin, and she seems to be quite the woman, but until now, I had not seen or heard her speech! Thanks for posting it. All I can say is WOW! Now I understand what all the fuss is about! I agree with you that she is exactly what we need in the White House!
