Do Miracles Really Happen?

By now everyone knows about US Air 1549 pilot “Sully” Sullenberger’s textbook ditching in the Hudson River. Was it a miracle? Even those that don’t believe in God have to recognize a miracle when they see one!

Cousin Mike says it was a miracle, all right. “No one died, the passengers standing on the wing appeared to be walking on water, news of the ditching knocked Obama out of the headlines for 24 hours, no one in government could take credit, and no one claimed it was George Bush’s fault.” I can’t argue with that logic!

Mike also sent a timely link to this story about another successful ditching, this one involving PanAm flight 943 in the Pacific in late 1956 with no fatalities or serious injuries. Another miracle? You bet! It’s another good story worth a read. And watch the video at the end taken by the guys aboard the Coast Guard ship that just “happened” to be in the area to rescue the passengers and flight crew.

Nope, you can’t tell me miracles don’t happen!

Truly miracles. God works in mysterious ways.

I know there are miracles. I also know that many people write them off as coincidence or occurrences of "stuff happens". But they are there. Not every day but sometimes. All you have to do is keep your eyes open and accept what you see.

Most people acknowledge that the pilot did a miraculous job landing on the water. And it has to be noted that the water was flat, unlike the landing in the Pacific of the PanAm flight which broke apart. But I can't deny there was heavenly hand at work in both cases.

Great story and thanks for the link to the PanAm story and video. Both were definitely miracles. Think about it: Two engines die in the middle of the Pacific and there happens to be a Coast Guard boat right there to lay out a foam runway and pick up the survivors? I would call that a miracle! Sully's landing? One wing tip touching the water and it would have been an entirely different story. Want to give all the credit to the pilot? He did his job, but how can you say he didn't have some help? You can't. It was a miracle.

I am in the 'miracle' camp. I'm no holy roller, but I know there is a God and I believe in miracles. These are just 2 examples.

Of course there are miracles. The fact that we exist is a miracle in itself. Most people have experienced a miracle at some time in their lives. Too many of us try to find a "logical" explanation and when they can't find one, they chalk it up to "we just haven't yet found the answer but we are still looking". Many of those are miracles, but that is too simple, right? Wrong. Sometimes what you see is really what you see.

What an amazing story and what an amazing pilot and humble man is Sully, the pilot who landed his plane in the Hudson! We needed some good news amidst all the doom and gloom we have been hearing. In that respect, it was a much appreciated miracle.

We had a miraculous, happy ending.

May it be the harbinger of many more to come.

I have often wondered about mircales and their affect....how they happen, why they happen, do they happen, what we consider miracles etc. Are they something spiritual or just a random set of events? Is there really some mechanism where we can manifest a mircale? Makes you wonder what is really out there.

I believe in things greater than we are, in mystery, and even in miracles and spirit and angels. Don't we all? I mean, if we are honest with ourselves.
