Systems Engineering - Concept to Installation

Steve, a systems engineer, sent me this humorous illustration dealing with the elements of project design and installation from the different perspectives of everyone involved…

That's how it goes in our office, all right!

I'm a project manager and this is exactly how things usually go. Massive re-writes are usually needed and the client has to spend 4 times the original estimate. Of course, that's more money for us, but if the project was outlined clearly from the start, it wouldn't be a stereotypical joke, would it!?

It sure seems that way. I'm at the check writing end of the chain. I don't know why it's so difficult to communicate what is needed and have it understood by those expected to complete the project. But illustrations like this remind us how important it is to keep trying.

A picture is always worth a thousand words. Here the two combine to illustrate an unfortunate reality.
