McCain's "Very Personal" Win in New Hampshire

Thought I’d forgotten about the Nebraska Republican Presidential Primary? No, but that one surprised me, too. I know he was favored, but… CNN has an analysis.

mccain_03.jpgSen. John McCain’s victory in New Hampshire’s Republican primary Tuesday came with the help of critics of a war he supports and independents who gave him the edge eight years ago, exit polls found.

The result highlights a remarkable rebound for McCain, whose campaign was largely left for dead over the summer.

“When the pundits declared us finished I told them I’m going to New Hampshire where the voters don’t let you make their decision for them,” he told supporters in Nashua after his leading rivals conceded.

McCain had alienated the party’s conservative base with his support of a controversial immigration bill, his poll numbers dipped against his rivals, and his disappointing fund-raising prompted a shakeup of senior staff.

“I’m past the age when I can claim the noun ‘kid,’ no matter what adjective precedes it,” McCain said. “But tonight, we sure showed them what a comeback looks like.” …

I wasn't surprised. But I don't really think he can sustain his push because largely of his position on illegal immigration. We will have to wait and see.

Nebraska has a lot of Independents that see themselves as bucking the system. Picking McCain may be their way of doing just that.

Yea! I like McCain. I think he would be good for the country. I don't agree with his stand on immigration, but no one is perfect. Overall, he's the one for the job!

I may never understand Iowa or New Hampshire voters. Seems like a "we're different but we're first" mentality, a kind of "in your face" kind of mindset. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as we move along.

I actually like McClain, but he isn't really a conservative. He is a liberal on too many issues deemed important to conservatives and even moderates. I could get behind him, though, if he would just pledge to change direction on his amnesty and illegal immigration positions. Promise no amnesty. Promise to build the wall and get tough on illegals. Do that and I could vote for him.

It looks like Fred never made it out of the starting blocks. Think he will throw in the towel this early, or try a while longer?

I like him to but let's wait to see if he has the internals and can raise enough money to stay in the race.
