Breast Cancer Petition
Michele asked that I pass this information along.
Many of you may already be aware that the U.S. House of Representatives recently approved the bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act aimed at ending the practice of “drive-through” mastectomies, where women are forced to leave the hospital within hours of undergoing major breast cancer surgery.
But the act still needs our support in the Senate! Please click the pink ribbon to sign the petition urging the Senate and the President to take the next steps to pass this very important bill. The requested information will only be use on the petition, and you’ll be helping assure that decisions regarding a woman’s hospital length of stay following a mastectomy are determined by her and her doctor rather than insurance companies.
This legislation is extremely important. I urge everyone to take the minute or so necessary to sign the petition and to write or email your elected officials as well. Email this post (click the “email” link below) to your friends. Help right this wrong.

Thank you for posting this. Passage will help all women everywhere!
I'll spread the word that everyone must sign this petition. Everyone should care about this awful breast cancer issue.
I agree, this problem affects both women AND men, so it is important we ALL not only sign the petition but contact our senators as well. God bless you for posting about it.

Thanks for posting. Doctors know better than insurance companies what patients need so they and their patients should be making these important decisions!
By all means! I signed and will also email my Senator. I watched my mother die of breast cancer, and I don't ever want to see another person be heartlessly shuffled out of a hospital due to insurance companies and their self-serving practices.
I am happy to sign and will ask everyone I know to sign too. Our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends deserve compassionate medical care while battling breast cancer. Insurance companies need to put people before profits when patients are fighting for their very lives.
Yes yes! Please sign! No one should be forced to leave the hospital before they and their doctor thinks they are ready. But it isn't always the insurance company to blame for sending people home early. Sometimes it is the hospital and physician themselves!
In 2002 I was operated on and my physician tried to make me leave the hospital that same evening. My insurance company had told me that it was considered major surgery and I should spend the night at the hospital. The physician and I had a very stressful argument, but I stayed. No one should ever be sent home early. At least in my case, thank God for my insurance company!
Everyone please sign and also email your elected representatives. Email this post to your friends and ask them to sign too! Every patient's situation is different and needs to be handled between them and their doctor. One size does not fit all, especially in medical care, and insurance companies should be the LAST to have a say. They think THEY are paying for our care. They aren't! PEOPLE PAY the insurance companies to handle their care. Insurance companies work FOR their insureds, not the other way around!
My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. She had a very difficult time in surgery and was not recovering well but, because of her insurance company's policy, she was forced to leave the hospital before she and her doctor felt she was ready.
Please sign this petition and write your representatives. Our mother's and grandmother's devote their lives to taking care of us; shouldn't we do everything in our power to do the same for them?
We must put people before profit. Thank you and God bless you.
It should be the doctors decision when a patient is ready for release from the hospital after any procedure. Too often after premature release complications arise that could have been prevented. Insurance companies should not be able to pressure medical professionals act in a way that does not serve the patient in the safest manner possible. Early release is not safe.
Please sign this petition and contact your Congressional representatives to prevent this breach in medical care.
God bless you for posting this and helping to spread the word about this.
Absolutely! This is so important, I hope everyone signs the petition.
Thank you again for the post and the link in your navigation bar. I have emailed your post to my "friends and family" email list which is quite extensive, asking them to join our cause. You are wonderful for providing your support!
Thank you Doug for posting this. My mother is a cancer survivor. She didn't have this experience but I can only imagine the horror felt by women who have. Lets keep up the fight and maybe in our lifetimes we will defeat all cancer from the earth.
Thanks for alerting about the petition. I hope the Senate doesn't let this important bill die as has been the case for the last several years. At least it passed the house this time. Signing the petition AND EMAILING/WRITING YOUR SENATORS may make it a reality this time around. Everyone, please help, this is so important!
