Considering a "Living" Christmas Tree?

If you’ve never enjoyed a “living” Christmas tree, you might want to consider it. The idea is that, by buying a living tree for your home and then planting it after the holidays, you’re not only “saving a tree,” you’re helping landscape your yard. Some of us, though, shy away from decorating green because we think it’s too much work or we’re not sure how to plant the thing once we remove all the ornaments.

Granted, a living tree is heavy, what with the root ball and all. Lugging it into and out of the house takes some ingenuity and maybe a couple strong friends. But the big question remains, “How do you plant a Christmas tree?” Well, don’t fret. Here’s a primer from the good folks at Growing Wisdom:

That was handy, especially for people who live4 in cold climates.

We had one one time and planted it in our front yard. It grew pretty big and we decorate it there in the yard every year. It was a lot of work but we get to enjoy it every Christmas and year round.

I always wondered. We have talked about doing it one year, maybe this year if they aren't too expensive.

We do this every few years and have 4 trees planted. It was a good lesson for our kids as they were growing up about helping the planet by saving a tree. They cost more and are more work but its worth it. If you haven't ever tried it, do it this year and maybe you will start a tradition. :))

Our family decorated and planted living Xmas trees for a few years until we didn't have any place left too plant them. We even gave some to our family and friends after we used them. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a little work to help the planet :)

What I need, a 300 pound tree in my living room :) that I can undecorate and lug to the back yard to plant. I don't think so.

Pretty good info. I assume if you aren't in that cold of climate you can do without the straw? I will price them, if they are not too much more than a cut tree then maybe.

We protect the forest by using a fake tree. Had it for 5 years and it still works great!

Maybe that was our mistake....we bought too big of a tree!

A few years ago I let myself get talked into one of these but it was way bigger than the one in the video so it took four of us to get in in the house and out again. Then I couldn't get help for a while to plant it so when I finally did, it died come summer. So been there done that thank you very much ;-)
