Southwest Airlines Says No #$*!%ing Luggage Fees
Following up on Monday’s post about the spread of airline add-on fees for everything from peanuts to baggage and aisle seats, U.S. airline Southwest is resisting the trend — and picking up a lot of extra business — by sticking to their business model. The airline ran this ad in the Wall Street Journal (click to enlarge):
It reads “Don’t #$*!% me over” followed by “Southwest is the only airline that accepts this coupon” and the clever tag line: “Fees don’t fly with us.” More (Hat tip to Teddy and Billyum!)

Give Southwest a sour lemon and they'll figure a way to make lemonade. The other airlines would do well to follow Southwest's business plan: take care of customers well and for as little cost as possible. Seems simple enough.
Well, if the other airlines WANT us to fly Southwest, well, I guess we should.
THAT is a great strategy. While the other airlines are sticking it to us, Southwest invites us to fly "Fee Free". Not sure how they are doing it, but I'll stand in line for lower fares AND not feeling ripped off!
Southwest is already one of the most efficient carriers. This looks like seeing an opportunity to fill more of their planes. Instead of charging double for half full planes, they will hold the line for full ones. Makes sense in principal if fuel costs don't throw a monkey wrench into the plan.
And kudos to the advertising department for the lighthearted ad. It is so typical of them. Somehow we don't mind standing in line for an hour as much because they make us smile while we're doing it.
I LOVE Southwest!!!
Your link directs you to a page listing what they don't charge extra for as in the ad. But you can also book a flight right there. Simple, easy, the Southwest way. That's why they continue to be successful where other airlines struggle.
Yep, it is pretty clear the other airlines want us to fly on Southwest. OK, if that is what you want....
Pure advertising genius and business smarts! Fly Southwest!
Smart move by Southwest. We were already customers but this made us smile.
Nice to see that even in the face of trouble, Southwest hasn't lost its sense of humor.
I used to work for Southwest. Great company to work for.
They sure have the most entertaining
