View From the Other Side of the Fence

1091762-1679176-thumbnail.jpgYou’ll remember Tatiana, the Siberian tiger that escaped from its grotto at the San Francisco Zoo in December, killing one visitor and mauling two others. The incident led to sweeping changes in zoo habitats at the San Francisco Zoo and elsewhere. Well, Tatiana is back in the news, this time amid allegations that at the time of its escape the tiger may have been “grumpy” and more aggressive due to being underfed.

You can watch the story play out in the news, but it brought to mind an image I’d seen some time back at divinecarolyn. Part of a campaign by Calgary Zoo to promote its behind the scenes tour with the lions, the ad suggested a humorous (at least before the SF Zoo incident) view of zoo visitors “from the other side of the fence”.

The text reads, “Come face-to-face with the top of the food chain. Book a behind the scenes tour with the lions at CalgaryZoo.com. Click on the image at left for a larger view.

I can see how some feathers might have been ruffled by this ad after the tiger attack. It has been a while so sensitivities have calmed. Now it is funny again!

Sensitivities ruffled? We really need to toughen up. I get tired of everyone being offended by so much stuff. Grow up people!!

I don't know about that Teddy, I recognized you from the picture right away!

That was very sad. I heard they thought that the boys had been taunting the tiger. Did they ever determine that for sure?

The boys' families lawyered up and so the legal response was "no", thety did nothing to taunt the animal, but it was suspicious.

Weren't they in the zoo after hours when they had no business even being there? That should tell you something.

This is all based on weight reports. The tiger weighs 50 pounds (?) leass than at its former zoo so it did lose weight, but the SF Zoo says it was at proper weight which implies that it was 50 pounds too fat at its previous zoo.
