Apple Unveils MacBook Wheel at Macworld
At this week’s Macworld Expo in San Francisco, Apple Inc. unveiled the latest member of its laptop computer family, the MacBook Wheel. At 13.3 inches, it’s the first laptop without a traditional keyboard. As Senior Product Innovator Brian Gilman put it, “At Apple our philosophy is create products that are simple to use, and nothing’s more simple than a single, giant button.”
The MacBook Wheel won’t be available for several months, but tech reporter Jeff Tate was able to test drive one. Andrea Bennett has the story.

Funny. Nothing's more simple than a big round button unless it's a bigass table :)
Always funny to see what people do to poke Apple's innovation but they are never mean spirited. It is born out of respect for the lead Apple takes in its industry. Like the clickwheel on the iPod. It was brilliant design.
Apple is known for its cutting edge design as much as its computers. If they could manufacture them cheaper, they would dominate the world. Let's hope they never take that route.
LOL! I love Onion News, their skits are great! Poking fun at Apple is always fun too :))
LOL, "I'll buy almost anything if it's shiny and made by Apple."
It looks like a giant iPod lol!
If you didn't know better you would think it was a real news cast. Onion is the best!
Very funny, a giant button. But if Apple actually made it, fanboys would buy it.
I think it is amazing that Onion can produce such realistic news segments. Even the booth at MacWorld seems real with several 'Wheels' being tried out. They must have a huge budget.
Just a note, it must have been made before MacWorld because Steve Jobs didn't do the keynote this year.
I read that Steve Jobs is more sick than he thought he was. I heard cancer. I hope he is ok.
If something happens to Steve Jobs, what will that do to the stock price? He is the guiding force of Apple.
One of the best parts is the "predictive sentence technology" that automatically completes sentences for you. I was able to glimpse a few of them and they are hilarious, but when you pause the screen, a menu blocks your ability to read them. If anyone has the complete list, that would be a great follow up to share.
Hey, I had a chance to try this out!
I'm up to 3 words per minute using the Wheel!
At this rate, I should finish my novel when I'm 146.
WOW, what a wonderful innovative idea! How did I live without it?
I guess better voice recognition that allows me to lay down my thoughts as fast as I can talk just wasn't as practical as a big button.
Huh....
You realize this is all joke, right?
Yes, of course, Teddy....
But Doug would want me to get excited about anything Apple...
HAH! Fat chance!
Apple-holics Anonymous. I'm telling you. It's time.
Teddy:
I enjoy a good spoof as much as the next guy, even at Apple's expense. But I don't expect Michael to get excited about Apple -- he's a died in the wool peecee fanoholic. If and when he decides to get a Mac, it'll be because he sees a value in doing so -- perhaps to do more or to simplify -- but I doubt that will happen for a long time. He's warm and cozy with his peecee; I wouldn't try to change that. Oh, I'll jab him a little here and there, but it's just because we're goombas.
Doug
Oh man, I should have waited to get my macbook a few more weeks, then I could have had the super cool new shiny macbook wheel!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!! Too Funny! I love Onion news!
That we are, Goombah....
That we are.....
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to all my software choices....SOOO many programs...so little time!
;-)
Of course, Michel, I know what a mammoth task it is to sort through ALLLL those non-standardized, quasi-useful software options in search of the few kernels of useful and well written code that are buried within that vast
wastelandlibrary to supplement the windose holy grail (WEPOE). Some even work with minimal crashing.BTW, iPhone users have downloaded 500 Million apps. Sure, a great many are crap, but they're FREE crap ;-)
I think Windows users are just comfortable and afraid of change. It is human. Those that switch usually never look back though. And let's be honest, you just get more fun stuff done easier when you switch. I switched a year ago and wonder why I waited so long.
