Friday Fly-by - Mike's Socata TB20

Instead of military aircraft in this week’s fly-by, we’re featuring my friend and dive buddy, Mike, and his Socata TB20 Trinidad. (Wife Michele refers to it as “his beloved”.)

I’ve traveled with Mike and Michele to many of the most exotic dive destinations in the world and, besides a love of world class underwater adventure, we share an affinity for general aviation. Michele shares this photo and cockpit video of Mike and the TB20 in flight.

My ex-brother in law has a Trinidad and I have flown with him. Terrific little plane. He bought it to prepare for his instrument rating. Has constant speed prop, retractable gear, great NAVaids and air conditioning. Nice plane!

That was fun. Tell him the "Top Gun" music is a little over the top though :)

Really nice plane and video of it in flight. Too bad he couldn't have had some footage from another plane so we could see the exterior in flight but the right seat view was great!!!

On a windy day let's go flying
There may be no trees to rest on
There may be no clouds to ride
But we'll have our wings and the wind will be with us
That's enough for me, that's enough for me.

Very nice post Doug, I wish I had learned to fly when I was younger, I always wanted to.

Lovely poem Yolanda. Here is one of my favorites by Christopher Logue:

Come to the edge.
We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It's too high!
COME TO THE EDGE!
And they came,
and he pushed,
and they flew.

Looks like a windless day, did I hear that it was 90 degrees, a little hot for a sweatshirt?

No ert, judging by the trees it was winter.

This makes me want to take flying lessons!! I have always thought it would be fun, this makes it look like something I could do :-D

What a kool plane! I had a ride in a plane once, but that one is so much kooler. How much does one like that cost? How much are lessons? How old do you have to be? How long does it take to learn to fly a plane? Could a kid learn to fly?

Neat plane, cool vid. But "Danger Zone"? Yes, WAY over the top/ :)

I liked it. I would love to take a ride in a private plane. It looks like fun. There is an ad in the paper for a ride at a flight school where you get a ride to see if you like it. They probably hope you will sign up to take lessons but it isn't required. I am going to take me a ride!! :D
