Prop 8 - The Musical

I haven’t been to Funny or Die in a while, but Jamie at Perr Bear has, and she grabbed this mini-musical skit protesting the passage of Proposition 8, the California ballot measure in last year’s general election that defined marriage in California as between a man and a woman.

Written and co-produced by Marc Shaiman (on the piano), the cast includes Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris, John C. Reilly and other celebrities.

Law suits seeking to overturn the measure abound and the California Supreme Court has accepted three, with oral arguments and a decision expected later this year.

No question which side of the issue the actors are on (heh)

Was that really filmed in Sacratomato?

Cute but horribly biased. What would have happened if the straight community took this approach? All hell would have broken loose, that's what!

I get the Neil Patrick Harris "there's money to be made" song stuck in my head all the time :) A huge cast; anyone see Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) as one of the Scary Catholic School Girls From Hell?

Sorry, but the whole issue is disgusting, and the tactics they are using to try to force acceptance of their agenda are too! I understand their wanting certain rights like hospital visitation and all. I think they even already have that. But insisting that that isn't enough, they want the rest of us to accept a new definition of marriage just so they can be included is unreasonable. They don't care that the majority of people in our country don't want marriage re-defined just to please a minority group that doesn't fit what has always been, even back to biblical times. You have all or most of the "rights" you petitioned for. Go live your lives and be happy and stop trying to change the world to conform to you!

Yup, Sarah and a cast of thousands!! It is easy to recognize almost everybody! I would love to see a feature film comedy with all of them in it :))

The recognition of civil unions wasn't enough. Now they want everyone to abandon their beliefs and accept the minority's desire to alter the current law of the land just for them. As a Christian, I find that abominable. Making fun of biblical verses in Leviticus to say that they find some of them silly and therefore all are silly is blasphemy.

In 1996, the United States Congress passed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman amongst other stipulations. That is the wish of the people. As of November 2008, twenty-nine states had passed constitutional amendments explicitly barring the recognition of same-sex marriage, nineteen of which prohibit the legal recognition of any same-sex union. Nineteen additional states and the territory of Puerto Rico have legal statutes that define "marriage" as a union of two persons of the opposite-sex. That should be enough. But no, they "want" and so they will campaign until the "get", wear us down with charges of "intolerance" and homophobia (What the rest of us are called if we express disagreement with their position).

And President Barack Obama's political platform includes full repeal of the DOMA. Another step closer to full socialism. You were right. He is a Socialist/Marxist!

We are not the Netherlands people! Take your civil union recognition and rights and leave the rest of us alone!!

A cute skit. Was it really produced in Sacramento or were they just taking a jab at the California Legislature?

Next we will see people who want to marry their goats. They will call us all intolerant because we won't accept the shepherds lifestyle. We will adopt a 'don't ask don't tell' policy because we don't want to appear condescending or appear unaccepting of things we don't accept. They will want to marry their goats so the goats can have medical care on their insurance policy, then they will want to adopt 'kids'. We will go the way of the Roman Empire.

We only want what you have, that is only fair. Why discriminate against a whole class of people? Marrying is a natural thing, it doesn't hurt you!

The bigoted, screaming harpies who so vocally supported Prop 8 know that they're on a sinking ship, and that one day they will be relegated to the fringe of the fringe along with people who still believe interracial marriage is "unnatural". That"s why they"re being so loud.

I was always a strong supporter of Domestic Partnership law. But witnessing the incredible intolerance demonstrated by the GL community, I withdraw my support.

From henceforth I will vote to restrict the rights of the GL community. Someone needs a lesson in civility. Hopefully the majority of Californians who voted for Prop 8 will do the same.

Being a bigot is neither a family value nor Christian virtue.

February 3 | Unregistered Commenterbrandywine

How is opposing a "lifestyle" and its attempt to attain inclusion under the definition of marriage by rewriting the definition bigotry? I don't agree with you so I am a bigot? You obviously don't agree with me, so wouldn't that make you a bigot?

I LOVE THIS STUFF!

Gay marriage has been banned in CA since 2000 (see Prop 22). The activist judges overturned it, and Prop 8 just righted a wrong.

We're b.utch and armed to the t-ts. We get it.

Demanding ‘equality’ and demonizing the other side is not a winning campaign when dealing with serious social issues.

Did anyone else notice how much Jack Black in the skit looks like the big gal in the tequila post? Striking resemblance! Or have I had one too many?

February 3 | Unregistered CommenterHookercrook

3 or 4 too many :-)
