Remembering 9-11
It’s been seven years. Perhaps the emotions you experienced that day - terror, disbelief, anger - have faded. Perhaps you think that day is a horrible part of our history to be filed away. It’s not. The enemy is reforming and will strike again. The war against evil is now and forever a part of our lives. We must be vigilant. We must use all means to defeat the enemy or he will surely defeat us. That is the nature of war. And make no mistake - we are at war.
We must remember the act of war that brought us here. Take a few moments to watch this video. Do you remember that day? Were you angry? Are you still angry?
We are Americans. We honor our dead and we give aid and comfort to those who have suffered. But then we return to the battlefield to engage and defeat the aggressor. He is still there, plotting, planning to attack again. The war is not over…
Remember those who perished that day. Say a prayer for those who carry on without them. Never forget.
Attacked911 has a moving remembrance video I recommend you all watch. Fair warning: It will reawaken the emotions you experienced that day. These are the people we remember today.
The 7 Mb file, last updated in 2002, may take some time to buffer on older systems, but it’s well worth the wait. And if the last part doesn’t move you to tears, well, you’re just not right.

I was at a park with my two-year-old twins when someone mentioned the World Trade Center. We packed up and went home where a quick glance at the television told me more than I wanted to know. I will never forget.
I will never forget that day. But I will always be grateful that my children were too young to feel the terror as our hearts crumbled along with the towers. God bless those who lost their lives or their loved ones that day.
Eternal rest grant onto them, O Lord.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen
Never forget what happened that morning no matter how much some might want for us to. People died just because they lived a different life than their murderers, and let none of us think for even a moment that any of us who live our lives apart from these murderers' twisted ideologies would be spared were they given the chance to kill us. Military, civilian, men, women, children, they do not care. They have no mercy. We must remember that those who have harmed us are still at work in the world. When we are urged in a now almost cliche gesture to "never forget", remember not only the day, but every bloody detail. The victims had names, and lives. Those buildings and planes were filled with real people. Those who killed them were happy to have done it, and did so unprovoked.
Never forget.
Thank you, men and women of our armed forces, men and women of our first responders, men and women in leadership of our country, men and women of the City of New York, men and women of America who put themselves in harm's way every day to secure our freedom. And thank you, Lord, for this great country where we have the freedom of speech and religion. Help us to not take our freedoms for granted.
I will always remember the people running out while our firefighters were running in. Such bravery!
God Bless America.
Very nice post.
I was at work. One of my clients called me and she was crying. My coworker turned on her radio and we sat and listened. I can’t imagine being in NYC on that day.
Good stuff, thanks for posting. It reminded me that my own problems pale in comparison to what others have faced and are facing as a result of that terrible day.
May we always be vigilant.....
Seven years after the attacks and too many people in this country are inclined to mourn the victims as if they had died in some natural disaster and not as victims of zealot murderers. We should still be angry, fighting mad! The murderers are still out there.
Thank you for posting this. I hope it reminds people we are not safe from these people.
I remember how I felt. I was filled with disbelief and horror. Then sadness. Then anger.
When President Bush declared war, I was glad. I wanted to strike a massive blow against the ideology that attacked us. Most of America waved flags, attended parades. We were one, united against our enemy.
Then politicians got involved and our enemy became more difficult to recognize. It wasn't the ideology that attacked us we were told, it was a handful of "extremists". We were told not to blame the ideology, just the extremists.
I am still mad. I am mad at the ideology for that is our enemy. But saying so has become politically incorrect. That is regrettable, because it is the ideology that is moving to crush us, not a few "rogue" extremists. What will it take to make us recognize our enemy?
Wonderful post Doug. A timely reminder of what happened and how we must remain vigilant. Pray for those who died and for those who carry on after them. God bless them and God bless us all..
I remember this video. It is so well done and you are right, it brought tears when I saw the people and heard the voices. It did open the wound a little but you know what? We need that. It has been turned into a political football and we need to go back to the place we were when it happened. We were attacked, people just like us, maybe people we knew, died a horrific death. They were murdered. We need to stay on the attack until the murderers and those who provide them safe harbor surrender unconditionally.
You opened an old wound. Thank you.
A little long but very moving and worth watching. Yes, I teared up. We remember the war but tend to forget the real people. Thanks for the reminder.
OMG that made me cry!! What a powerful video!!
I think I saw this back when the attack was fresh in everybody's minds. Probably like everybody else, I forgot the faces of the people. It was a reminder I needed, we all need.
A great remembrance! Thanks for posting it!
And btw you were right about making me tear up. It did.
Funny how our minds bury the memories we find difficult to live with. We remember we were attacked, we remember it was bad, but even when we see pictures of the Towers, we don't remember the images of the people or their screams. It is good to bring those memories back to the surface if only once a year. It puts the war on terror back into perspective.
That was jarring to say the least. And surprising to me that those vivid, horrific images and sounds had somehow been buried somewhere in my mental archives. The vid brought them all pouring back into my current memory. I feel much of what I felt then; the anger, sadness, fear, horror. I am not sure what I will do with it now. Maybe it will return to my archives. But it has realigned my perspective on the "war" and for that I thank you.
It was also interesting to hear the things President Bush said, how we would react, how we would hold those that harbor and abet terrorism will be treated alike. Perhaps Washington suffers from the same "mental archiving" resulting in diminished resolve.
You did a good job with this tribute. THANKS.
It was gratifying to see so many of you remembering the horrific acts of 9-11. And I believe it's good for the soul to revisit the events, the emotions, the fear and then the rage we felt in the days and months following.
The war is not over. The enemy is simply waiting for us to lapse once again into complacency when he will more easily strike again. We must not let down our guard. We must remain ever vigilant.
Thanks for your continued readership and for your comments.
Wonderful post, thank you. Never forget and God bless America.
